After a weekend with two national track and field championships in Boston and New York City the final HOKA Indoor Athletes of the Week for the 2023-24 season are awarded to the Ridgefield’s boys DMR & 4x800m relays, Windsor boys 4x400m relay team and the Greenwich girls 4x1mile relay team.

Ridgefield boys returned to the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Facility in Boston last Friday, site of their New England victory and state record in the 4x800m, and continued their dream season by winning a national championship in the Distance Medley Relay at New Balance National Indoor Championships.
The Tigers have been having a season with the type of accomplishments that lead to future hall of fame honors. The past few weeks, they have swept the Class LL, State Open and New England title, setting the state and New England meet record of 7:47.62. On Friday afternoon, Charlie Lovett led off the 1200m leg running a split of 3:07.07 and handed off in 2nd place. Aidan Nelson maintained his position, running a 52.72 and Magnus Manley ran his four laps in 1:56.68 just four seconds behind Westfield, NJ at the final exchange. But just like last spring when Steven Hergenrother came from behind to win NBNO DMR, the senior once again helped his team to take home another national championship. This time he raced his future Princeton teammate Avery Keith and ran his 1600m split in 4:04.67 to finish with a US #4 time and broke Darien’s nine-year-old state record with a finish of 10:01.13.
The same four individuals that sped to the DMR championship title returned to take fourth in the 4x800m Championship on Sunday afternoon. Charlie Lovett, Aidan Nelson, Magnus Manley and Steven Hergenrother earned All American honors once again, crossing the line in 7:50.10, just two and a half second slower than their state record time from their winning time at the New Englands last week.
