Vazquez Named Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pac-12 Conference named Arizona Track & Field’s Yan Vazquez the Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

This marks the first conference honor for the sophomore hurdler who excelled in his Wildcat debut last weekend at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta, winning the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.09. That time puts him eighth all-time in school history in the event.

His performance is fourth in the nation and the fastest time in the Pac-12 during outdoor season. His best time in the event is 50.97, which he ran last year at UCLA. Vazquez is an Arizona native who attended Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Ariz.

Vazquez and the Wildcats will compete at home again this weekend in the Willie Williams Classic on Friday and Saturday.
