CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Devin Nugent was selected as the ACC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Ilse Steigenga was selected as the ACC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday evening.
Nugent and Steigenga won their respective events, the men’s 400m hurdles and the women’s long jump, on the opening day of the USF Alumni Invitational this past weekend in Tampa, Fla. Nugent, a sophomore from Abington, Pa. crossed the finish line in 51.09 seconds to secure the victory in the first outdoor competition of the season. He came just shy of breaking his own personal record and fourth best program time of 51.07 recorded last season. Steigenga, a senior from the Netherlands, leaped 6.25m on her final attempt to take the gold in the women’s long jump.
Nugent, Steigenga and the Panthers will be back in action at Texas Relays in Austin, TX March 27-30. The distance group will travel to NC State for Raleigh Relays March 28-30.
