MSU Kicks Off Outdoor Track and Field Season in Texas

WACO, Texas – Michigan State Track & Field will kick off the outdoor season at the Clyde Hart Classic down south on Friday and Saturday, March 22-23.

40 of Michigan State’s top men’s and women’s track and field student-athletes will compete outdoors at Baylor University in Waco, Texas on the back of an indoor season that was full of consistent individual progress and personal records.

The indoor season culminated with graduate student Heath Baldwin’s national runner-up finish behind a Big Ten record and sixth best all-time score of 6238. Baldwin garnered U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year for that and his other achievements during the late fall and winter.

As the typically smaller indoor track changes to a larger one outdoors, so do the events. The throws events become the hammer throw, discus and javelin, retaining the shot put. The shortest sprints change from 60m to 100m and 110m for hurdles. A 4x100m relay is also added, as is the steeple chase distance event.
