Trecia-Kaye Smith Chosen for USTFCCCA Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame


NEW ORLEANS, LA – Former Pitt track and field standout Trecia-Kaye Smith is set to be inducted into the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame, announced Friday. Smith is one of 14 members in the 2024 Hall of Fame class.

The induction ceremony will be held at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon on June 2, 2024. Trecia-Kaye Smith will be the second inductee from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2022, John Woodruff was posthumously selected as a member of the inaugural Hall of Fame class.

Inducted into the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018, Smith is one of the most decorated athletes in Pitt history. A native of Westmoreland Parish, Jamaica, Smith won seven individual NCAA Championships throughout her four-year career as a Panther. Four titles (three in the long jump and one in the triple jump) came during the indoor season, while three (two in the long jump and one in the triple jump) were earned during the outdoor season. Smith was a 15-time All-American and 14-time Big East Champion. She was named the Big East Most Outstanding Field Performer for both the 1997 indoor and outdoor seasons. Smith also captured 15 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships. In 2007, Trecia-Kaye Smith was named to the USTFCCCA Silver Anniversary Team, in celebration of 25 years of women participating in NCAA Championships.

Her induction into the Collegiate Athlete Hall of Fame is a testament to her extraordinary talent. Trecia is a standard bearer and role model to all of the Pitt athletes that follow in her footsteps.
