White-Austin and Sims Earn Pac-12 Weekly Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Pac-12 Conference named Arizona Track & Field’s Trayvion White-Austin as the Men’s Track Athlete of the Week and Sir Jonathan Sims as the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The Wildcat duo posted record breaking and nation leading marks at last weekend’s home meet, the Willie Williams Classic.

White-Austin made Arizona history, breaking Michael Bates’ 33-year-old school record in the 100m. His first place finishing time of 10.14 broke the previous record of 10.17 set in 1991. That time also ranks as the fourth fastest time in the nation and first fastest in the Pac-12. White-Austin now holds school records in the outdoor 100m, indoor 60m, and indoor 200m. This is his second career Pac-12 Weekly Award, as he was a member of Arizona’s 4x100m team that won Pac-12 Men’s Track Athletes of the Week last year.

In addition to his performance in the 100m, White-Austin also clocked a season best time of 20.68 in the 200m to finish third at the Willie Williams Classic. The senior, who attended Sahuaro High School in Tucson, was also the first leg on Arizona’s 4x100m relay team that won the event.

Sir Jonathan Sims, a sophomore from Richmond, Va., who attended Hermitage High School, claimed his first victory of the year at the Willie Williams Classic, winning the long jump with a huge personal best leap of 26-1.75 (7.97m). That mark propelled Sims to fourth all-time in Arizona school history in the event. That jump also ranks first in the nation and Pac-12 currently. Additionally, Sims clocked a personal best time in the 100m of 10.84 at the meet. This marks his first career Pac-12 Weekly Award.

White-Austin and Sims’ efforts, along with the rest of their Wildcat teammates, helped the Arizona Men earn a ranking of fourth in the nation in the debut of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index.

The Wildcats will be back in action on April 5-6 at Drachman Stadium for the Jim Click Shootout and Multi’s.
