KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee’s outdoor track & field season ramps up this week with more than 60 athletes set to compete in two meets at Power Five venues. The UT distance runners head to NC State to open their 2024 outdoor campaign at the Raleigh Relays (March 28-29) while the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, pole vaulters and throwers travel to LSU for the Battle on the Bayou (March 29-30).
The Big Orange has 30 entries in Raleigh, beginning Thursday at 4:35 p.m. ET with the men’s 1,500-meter and concluding with the women’s 10,000-meter at approximately 9:20 p.m. Live results will be provided throughout the meet by Flash Results, Inc.
Down on the bayou, 40 athletes are set to represent Tennessee across two days of competition at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium. The meet opens up with the men’s hammer throw Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET and wraps up Saturday at approximately 3:25 p.m. ET with the women’s 4×400-meter relay. LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee’s 2024 outdoor season opened up two weeks ago at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational, where the Vols and Lady Vols posted a trio of impressive marks in the relay events. The All-American group of Javonya Valcourt, DaJour Miles, Kyla Robinson-Hubbard and Brianna White posted the nation’s top time in the 4×400-meter relay with a mark of 3:29.30, while the Lady Vol 4×100-meter quartet of Jacious Sears, Dennisha Page, Joella Lloyd and Jonah Ross set the NCAA’s No. 2 mark with a time of 43.45 seconds. On the men’s side, Clement Ducos, Zyaire Nuriddin, Rasheeme Griffith and Christian Parker turned in a winning time of 3:05.69 in the 4×400-meter relay that currently stands No. 4 nationally.
White also shined individually in the 200-meter dash with a lifetime-best clocking of 23.10 seconds, establishing the collegiate lead. Combining that mark with her anchor leg on the 4×400-meter relay, the UT senior was tabbed SEC Runner of the Week for the first time in her career.
Tennessee also excelled in the field events in the outdoor opener, beginning with freshman Aron Alvarez Aranda picking up a win in his collegiate discus debut and shattering the UT freshman record in the process. His best toss of 58.02 meters (190-4) ranks 14th in the country and No. 8 in UT history. Kevin Burr Jr. also impressed for the young UT throws squad with his heave of 68.59 meters (225-0) in the javelin, placing second at the meet and earning the No. 9 spot in UT…
