Garrett Leaps Program’s Fourth-Best High Jump in Outdoor Debut at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The men’s and women’s track and field teams completed day one of the Florida Relays on Friday (March 29).

Junior Kam Garrett made his first appearance in the high jump for the outdoor season where he placed fourth overall with the program’s fourth-highest clearance, 2.16m (7-1). This mark currently ranks as the eighth-best jump in the nation for the 2024 outdoor season.

Freshman Jordan Koskondy improved the program’s fourth-best hammer throw mark to 55.50m (182-1) in her ninth-place finish. She originally set the program’s fourth-best mark two weeks ago at the Hurricane Invitational, 52.62m (172-8). Junior Phethisang Makhethe placed sixth with a mark of 55.85m (193-1).

The women’s 4x100m relay team of freshman Asia Thomas, junior Jessica McDowell, freshman Sophia Beckmon and sophomore Azariyah Bryant placed ninth to qualify for tomorrow’s finals with a time of 44.24. Beckmon later would set a new personal-best in the 200m (23.70) where she placed 22nd overall.

Senior Robert Williams earned bronze in the 400 meter hurdles on a season-best time (51.00) which also ranks seventh in the nation. Freshman Eleftherios Kontonikola secured fifth place in the javelin with his 66.44m (217-11) throw. Sophomore Viktor Morozov closed out the first day with a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a hop of, 7.13m (23-4 3/4).


The Orange and Blue track and field crews return to action tomorrow (March 30) to complete the Florida Relays with field events starting at 8 a.m. CT and track events start at 11 a.m. CT.

  • Kam Garrett placed fourth in the high jump with the program’s fourth-highest mark, 2.16m (7-1).
