Caicedo lowers hurdles record to lead Cougars on day two at Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. — Washington State men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for a pair of relay wins, followed quickly by a first-place finish in the Stanford Invitational women’s 100m hurdles by Maribel Caicedo who clocked a time of 12.93 to break her own Ecuadorian national record, while also setting a new WSU program record at Cobb Track and Angell Field.  Caicedo’s teammate and fellow South American hurdler, Micaela De Mello, placed second in the women’s 100m hurdles in a time of 13.27, as the tandem also ran the opening two legs of Saturday’s women’s 4x100m relay team that placed first with a time of 44.67, the fourth-fastest in Cougar history.

Having already ranked inside the nation’s top-10 heading into the weekend, Caicedo’s program record 12.93 moves her into second among all NCAA Division I student-athletes.  Washington State’s men’s 4x100m relay team also finished first, clocking a season-best time of 39.95 to win Saturday’s event.

A pair of Cougar distance runners hit personal-bests in the men’s 800m run, Kellen Langford (1:53.40) and Emmett Klus (1:53.62), before John Paredes (13.82) and Mason Lawyer (10.40) also clocked lifetime-bests on the short track in the 110m hurdles and 100m dash, respectively.

Washington State will stay close to home next weekend as the Cougars compete in the Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday, April 5, before traveling to the Bryan Clay (April 11-13) and UCLA Invitational (April 13) the following week.
