Before that, however, Saturday was a fine day at Cobb Track and Angell Field, and even finer for Cydney Wright.
Stanford’s All-America sprinter won the women’s 100-meter final in a lifetime best of 11.51, improving upon a three-year-old best of 11.69. The victory gave her a sweep of the short sprints at the meet, having won the 200 on Friday.
Wright also led off Stanford’s winning 4×400 relay. The team of Wright, Maya Valmon, Roisin Willis, and Juliette Whittaker ran 3:32.63 for the No. 10 time in school history. Wright also was a member of Stanford’s runner-up team in the 4×100 (45.08).
Stanford’s Tess Stapleton continued her upward trajectory. Two weeks after jumping to No. 5 on Stanford’s top-10 list in her collegiate 100 hurdles debut, the Stanford junior ran even faster. Her 13.55 was good for fourth in the 100 hurdles and strengthened her hold on the No. 5 position in Stanford history,
The day also was notable for two celebrities competing. Matthew Centrowitz, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist in the 1,500 (and brother of former Stanford standout Lauren Centrowitz), ran the second section of the 800 and finished fourth in 1:49.72.
Also, Raevyn Rogers, the 2020 Olympic bronze medalist in the 800, won her specialty in 2:02.57.
