COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 6, 2024) – South Carolina Track & Field was back at it again on Saturday, competing on their home turf at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track. The Gamecocks came away with 10 event wins on Saturday, as well as a pair of Top-10 program marks.
The women secured six of the team’s 10 wins on Saturday, beginning with the women’s 4x100m relay as the quartet of Jayla Jamison, Cynteria James, Zaya Akins and Jahnile Registre clocked a time of 43.94 for the victory. The Gamecock women claimed two individual wins on the track in the form of distance events. Anya Arroyo ran her first collegiate 1500m and clocked a time of 4:44.29 to lead the charge for the Gamecocks who turned in six personal bests in the event. Gabriella Gait-Smith won the 5000m race after running a season best time of 17:24.18 as Carolina went one through five in the event.
Three Carolina women won field events on the afternoon beginning with Hannah Togami in the women’s pole vault. The South Carolina native opened the meet with a 3.85m clearing in the pole vault, resulting in her first outdoor win of the season. Following Togami’s win, Prommyse Hoosier earned her first win in a Carolina uniform in the women’s long jump. The Tennessee transfer jumped a season-best distance of 6.13m (20-1.5) for the seventh best jump in Carolina history and now sits 23rd in the East Region. The final win for the women came from Ella Lucas in the discus, coming away with her second win in three meets after throwing 46.78m (153-5).
The Gamecock women also had six more Top-3 finishes on the day, highlighted by Macey Dowe in the women’s javelin after throwing a new personal best distance of 39.37m (129-2) for the seventh longest throw in program history.
South Carolina’s men’s team earned four wins on the afternoon, including three in the field events. The Gamecocks opened up the day with a win in the 4x100m relay with Jasauna Dennis, Nyck Harbor, Prescott Jefferson and Anthony Greenhow dominating with a time of 39.49.
Ridge Dowe, Channing Ferguson and Dylan Targgart each notched wins in their respective events as well. Dowe secured his first win of the season in the men’s hammer after throwing a season best 52.27m (171-6). Ferguson notched his fourth overall win and his second in the men’s high jump when he cleared 2.11m (6-11).
