Two All-Time Marks as Terps Close Out Dalton Ebanks Invitational


FAIRFAX, VA – The Maryland track and field team wrapped up the Dalton Ebanks Invitational with strong performances from Rhys Allen and Mekhi Abbott.
 
Allen’s monster toss of 56.34m in the men’s discus was the sixth farthest discus throw in school history and was also good for a second-place finish in the event.  
 
Abbott improved on his already program record mark in the men’s javelin with his monster throw of 63.40m, surpassing his mark of 60.98m from last week at the Florida Relays.
 
Other Highlights

  • Jessica Sutter finished in seventh in the women’s javelin with a throw of 37.46m
  • Jayla Bynum and Kayla Thorpe finished in fifth and sixth place in the women’s shot put
  • Aaron Abedin secured a top-ten finish in the men’s 400m crossing the finish line with a time of 49.59 seconds
  • Kami Joi Hickson moved up in distance and set a new personal best in the 1500m (4:39.13) and Amanda Eliker also had a strong finish running 4:39.84. Sophia Zell crossed the line in 4:42.80
  • Bryce Middleton finished in a tie for third place in the men’s high jump, clearing 1.89m
  • Kyra Lyles finished in fourth place in the women’s 400m with a time 57.23 seconds
  • Ashley Thomas finished in the top-ten in the women’s 100H

Next Up: The Terps will head out west next weekend for both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach Invitational
