Forty-Seven Blue Devils Secure All-ACC Academic Team Honors


DURHAM – Forty-seven members of the Duke track and field team garnered All-ACC Academic Team honors for their respective performances in the classroom, as the conference announced its Scholar-Athletes of the Year and academic team selections Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Blue Devil women were represented by 24 individuals on the All-ACC Academic team — Halle Bieber, Emily Cole, Maddy Doane, Iris Downes, Julia Fenerty, Abby Geiser, Katie Hamilton, Julia Jackson, Gianna Locci, Amina Maatoug, Tina Martin, MaKayla Mason, Megan McGinnis, Moorea Mitchell, Addie Renner, Jill Roberts, Tia Rozario, Brianna Smith, Paige Sommers, Lauren Tolbert, Charlotte Tomkinson, Zoe Waddell, Samantha Wallenstrom and Kelli Wilson.

On the men’s side, Michael Bennett, Rory Cavan, Andrew Colbert, Zubeir Dagane, Carter Dillon, Owen Drometer, Austin Gabay, Mike Herzog, Grant Janish, Christian Johnson, Jeremy Kain, Michael Keehan, Jared Kreis, Ezra Mellinger, Shay Meseck-Schick, Sean Morello, Aimar Palma Simo, Alejandro Rodriguez, Michael Scherk, Christian Toro, Ryan Wilson, Jacob Winslow and Beck Wittstadt comprised the Duke honorees.

Bieber, Jackson, Johnson, Maatoug, Martin, Mellinger, Mitchell, Palma Simo, Smith, Rozario, Sommers and Tolbert all obtained All-ACC honors via their performances in at the 2024 ACC Indoor Championships highlighted by Johnson and Maatoug’s ACC titles in the men’s weight throw and women’s mile, respectively.

 

Mason and Smith went on to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships where the pair earned their first-career USTFCCCA All-America honors with nods to the second team.

 

Academic requirements for selection to the team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. In addition, student-athletes must have competed in the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships and/or the NCAA Indoor Championships during the most recent season.

 

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
