Nielsen, Friborg Rise Up Husky Records

THIS WEEK IN HUSKY TRACK & FIELD

Wilma Nielsen and Samantha Friborg both ran two of the top-five 800-meter times in UW history today as the Huskies opened up action at the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific University. Washington had just four athletes in action today, with the majority of the team’s racing set for Saturday.
 
Nielsen, who earned First Team All-America honors indoors with a sixth-place NCAA Indoor finish, moved up to No. 3 in Husky history outdoors with a time of 2:02.55. Friborg won her heat by nearly a full second, and the Yale transfer clocked a career-best time of 2:03.23, going to No. 5 in school history. Marlena Preigh also opened up her outdoor campaign with a time of 2:06.16.
 
The final Husky on the track tonight was Saskia Lloyd who had the longest assignment on the squad. Lloyd ran a personal-best time of 16:51.25 over 5,000-meters.
 
The Huskies will have multiple entries in the 1,500-meters on Saturday, which begin at 6:40 p.m.
