WALNUT, California – Thanks to a score of 7,370 points, Wisconsin men’s track and field senior Cade Amborn finished 13th in the elite decathlon at the 2024 Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday evening.
Amborn finished eighth among all collegiate competitors and was just 13 points shy of a personal-best score in the decathlon.
He got the day started in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing ninth at 14.73. He was the fifth-fastest collegiate athlete in the event.
UW alum Zach Ziemek returned for the discus throw after retiring following three events on Wednesday. The two-time Olympian placed second in his lone event of the day with a distance of 169-4 (51.61m). Amborn came in eighth after a throw of 144-6 (44.06m).
A native of Bangor, Wisconsin, Amborn grabbed 13th-place finish and top-eight collegiate placement in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-9 (4.50m).
Amborn finished ninth in the javelin with a distance of 178-5 (54.38m) and wrapped up the decathlon with a time of 5:21.15 in the 1500 meters.
Up Next: UW will send four athletes to the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday Friday. Freshman Ruby Madden will compete in the 1500 meters at 1:10 p.m. CT, while Alexa Westley will represent the Badgers in the 10,000 meters at 9:25 p.m. On the men’s side, Joe dosReis and Max Hartke will run in the 1500 meters.
