Track Central: Wake Forest Invitational / USC Outdoor Open


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – More than 50 Tennessee track & field athletes are set to compete this weekend as the Big Orange will be represented at a pair of meets in the Carolinas. Sean Carlson‘s distance squad will head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the Wake Forest Invitational on Friday, while a subset of UT sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for the USC Outdoor Open on Saturday.
 
The action begins Friday at approximately 7:47 a.m. ET with freshman Summer Schuster running Section 1 of the women’s 5,000-meter. Thirty-three Tennessee athletes will compete throughout the day at Kentner Stadium, and the meet will conclude at approximately 10:40 p.m. with Msgana Araya and Andie-Marie Jones in the women’s 10,000-meter.
 
At South Carolina, 18 Vols and Lady Vols are entered for the USC Open meet that runs all day Saturday. Competition begins at 11:45 a.m. with the men’s 4×100-meter relay, and the weekend will wrap up at approximately 5:25 p.m. with the men’s 4×400-meter relay.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee had a pair of world-class performances last weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville, Florida. Senior sprinter Jacious Sears was tabbed the USATF Athlete of the Week after clocking the second-fastest women’s 100-meter dash in collegiate history with a time of 10.77 seconds, which ranks No. 15 on the world all-time list and No. 7 in U.S. history. The Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, native holds the world lead for 2024 and is just the second woman to ever run sub-10.8 in the month of April.
 
On Friday in Gainesville, French hurdler Clement Ducos dipped well below the Paris 2024 Olympic standard for the 400-meter hurdles with a lifetime-best and school record mark of 48.26 seconds. His time ranks second in the world for 2024 and No. 5 on the list of all-time French performers in the event.
 
Lady Vol seniors Kyla Robinson-Hubbard and Dennisha Page made their mark on the UT all-time lists on Friday with impressive times in the 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, respectively. Robinson-Hubbard’s mark of 55.98 ranks fourth in program history and fourth in the NCAA this…
