Ethan Maher Wins 5k at Benson Hodge Memorial Invitational


MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. Ethan Maher capped off the Benson Hodge Memorial Invitational by winning the men’s 5000-meter race, crossing the finish line in 14:55.98. It was the first time Maher ran sub-15 minutes in the event in his career.

The Panthers had five female student-athletes record new personal best times in the 1500-meter race, with all five placing in the top ten at the meet. Gianna Cagliola led the pack, placing second in 4:39.62. Freshman Christina Elliott was the next finisher, taking third with a time of 4:42.50. Sarah Hurst followed consecutively in fourth with a pace of 4:42.84. Sophomore Anna Cohen stopped the clock in 4:46.53 for fifth place. Sophomore Alex Fleck rounded out the top ten with her speed of 4:53.88.

Sydney Urbine competed in her first 800-meter race in a Pitt uniform, tallying eighth in 2:21.33. The Brownsville, Pa. native was just shy of her personal best of 2:21.14 recorded a year ago.
