PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – It was another exciting day of competition for Duke track and field on Friday as day two of the Penn Relays saw the squad make several revisions to the program record books. The Blue Devils established a new program leader in the women’s distance medley relay while also posting top-five program marks in the women’s 4x200m relay and men’s DMR.
TOP PERFORMANCES – PENN RELAYS
- The Duke women dismantled its fourth school record of the outdoor season and eighth of the 2023-24 campaign overall – this one coming via the women’s DMR.
- Graduate students Julia Fenerty and Maddy Doane, freshman Iris Downes and senior Charlotte Tomkinson comprised the foursome that delivered the historic performance for the Blue Devils, with the quartet racing to a sixth-place finish of 10:55.48 – the mark smashing the previous record set in 2011 by nearly seven seconds.
- Over in the men’s race, the Blue Devil relay featuring graduate students Austin Gabay, Alejandro Rodriguez and Ryan Wilson and junior Beck Wittstadt carved out their spots in program lore with the group clocking 9:37.54, good for No. 4 all-time.
- The final Duke relay to slot themselves on the program charts was the women’s 4x200m, where freshman Mia Edim, graduate student Halle Bieber and sophomores Abby Geiser and Megan McGinnis assisted the Blue Devils to a runner-up finish behind a time of 1:34.32.
TOP PERFORMANCES – CHARLOTTE INVITE
- Duke opened the Charlotte Invitational with five top-five placements across five events.
- Friday’s outing was headlined by graduate student Jacob Winslow‘s performance in the men’s 1500m invite, with Winslow clocking 3:42.57 for the runner-up finish.
- Competing alongside Winslow was classmate Rory Cavan, who placed fourth via a time of 3:43.65. Over in the women’s 1500m invite, junior Anna Corcoran finished her race in 4:27.29 to also lock up a fourth-place finish.
- Junior Katie Hamilton took part in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase and turned in the best race of her career. Hamilton crossed the finish line in 10:31.01, good for third place overall and a 17-second improvement on her previous best.
