Celebrating A Special Group - University of Maryland Athletics


On Friday evening, Maryland track and field honored a special group of senior for their contributions to the program. The groups’ and their accomplishments are highlighted below.
 
Jayla Bynum is a shot putter, completing her second Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. In two years at Maryland, Jayla has thrown the 5th best mark indoors and 6th best mark outdoors while qualifying for NCAA East Prelims in both years. Upon graduation, she plans to pursue a career working in community engagement and mental health advocacy areas while working towards graduate school to earn a PhD in Clinical Psychology.
 
Madison Depry is a sprinter, currently majoring in French.  She will finish her degree program while competing next year and then pursue a master’s in computer science. Maddie has received the Big Ten distinguished scholar award for her academic excellence. She also ranks #8 All Time in the 300m dash and has contributed to events ranging from the jumps to sprints to relays during her career.
 
Amanda Eliker is a distance runner majoring in Public Health Science. She will take a gap year while preparing to apply to physician’s assistants school next year. Amanda has contributed to many successful teams finishes during the cross-country season including the Big Ten Championship finish. On the track she set personal bests in the 1500m during her senior year at Maryland.
 
Katie Ericson is a distance runner majoring in Kinesiology. She will be attending Northwestern next year to pursue a graduate degree in prosthetics and orthotics. Katie is heavily involved in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as the vice president of the organization.  When she is not busy engaging the campus community and student-athlete body in these events, she is out training for the longest events on the track with the 5k and cross country as her primary event areas.
 
Kami Joi Hickson is a middle-distance runner, majoring in Kinesiology. She will continue her education next year in the Smith Business school earning her master’s in business management studies.  Kami boosts many accolades for the program including being a member of the 4x800m school record team. She ranks #4 all time in the indoor 800m, #6 in the outdoor 800m, #6 in the indoor 600m, and #8 in the 1000m. Kami is also recently engaged and will be married in the summer of…
