GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Day 2 of the SEC Outdoor Championships, the Dores improved upon the foundation they laid on Day 1. Student-athletes posted four scoring performances, three school records were broken, Julia Rosenberg qualified for the 1,500 meters final, and Veronica Fraley was crowned the SEC shot put champion.
To start the day, Vanderbilt’s heptathletes placed fifth and sixth with personal-best scores to add 7 points to the Commodores’ total. Madison Murray was the fifth overall finisher with a score of 5,340 points, No. 8 all-time at Vandy. She recorded season-best marks in the long jump (5.62 meters) and javelin (39.82 meters) and a personal best in the 800 meters (2:21.24). Marta Sivina placed sixth, totaling 5,231 points over the seven events, the 10th-ranked score in school history. In the javelin, she threw a season best 32.93 meters and ran a personal-best time, 2:17.79, in the 800 meters.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Falon Spearman broke the program record with a 13.39-second time. In the same event, Taylor McKinnon registered a time of 13.72 seconds, No. 7 in school history, and Santana Spearman clocked 13.52 seconds (4.4 m/s).
Rosenberg punched her ticket to the 1,500 meters final with a second-place heat finish and a time of 4:21.86. The event final will be Saturday at 5:35 p.m. CT.
In the long jump, Lena Gooden added 3 more points for the Dores, placing sixth with a school record-breaking jump of 6.17 meters.
In the sixth and final round of the shot put, Fraley threw a PR of 18.29 meters to capture the title. In the process she reset the program record in the event. Sarah Omoregie also contributed to Vandy’s scoring in the shot put, placing seventh with a 17.02-meter throw. In the same event, Sarah Marvin turned in a season best 15.93-meter throw, just 1 centimeter short of her personal best, which was set at last year’s outdoor conference championships.
The final day of the SEC Outdoor Championships gets underway Saturday at 4:15 p.m. CT with the discus and high jump event finals. Fans can watch the meet on the SEC Network. Live results are available online.
