Reckart to Depart Duke Following 2023-24 Season

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head cross country and assistant track and field coach Angela Reckart will depart the program following the season to pursue other opportunities.

Reckart was hired to the Duke Athletics staff in June of 2021 following six seasons as the associate head coach of cross country and assistant coach of track & field at Penn State. During her three years at the helm of Duke’s cross country program, Reckart coached the men’s and women’s teams to six meet wins and 16 top-five placements, while helping the Blue Devils total five USTFCCCA All-Southeast Region honors, the 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year award and three All-ACC selections.

“I would like to thank Duke’s Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King for the opportunity to represent Duke athletics and lead this program for the last three years,” said Reckart. “I wish the team the best as my family and I look forward to our next chapter.”

“We are greatly appreciative of Coach Reckart’s dedication to Duke Athletics over the past three years,” said Duke Vice President and Director of Athletics Nina King. “She has been instrumental in the development and success of many student-athletes, and we certainly wish her the best in the next phase of her journey.”

Under Reckart’s guidance, Amina Maatoug posted the highest placement by a Duke cross country runner in the program’s history with a ninth-place showing at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and collected back-to-back USTFCCCA All-America honors to become just the fifth Duke runner all-time, and first since Juliet Bottorff (2012-13), to earn consecutive All-America plaudits. Maatoug also captured the gold medal in the mile at the 2024 ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Additionally, Reckart led Duke to a fifth-place finish at the 2022 ACC Cross Country Championships – the highest finish by the men’s and women’s team since 2015 and 2019, respectively.

On the track, Reckart coached the distance unit to ACC Championships in the men’s and women’s indoor mile and women’s indoor distance medley relay (DMR), 10 USTFCCCA All-America honors and 14 All-ACC accolades. The distance runners also totaled 47 top-five program marks under Reckart’s watch, including school records in seven indoor events – men’s 1000m, men’s and women’s mile, men’s and women’s 3000m,…
