Lexington, Ky. – The Clemson Tigers officially wrapped up NCAA East Regionals in Lexington as the women’s 4×100, 4×400 and nine individuals have earned national qualifying marks and will continue their season in Eugene, Ore. for the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Shining bright on the weekend was freshman, Gladys Chepngetich as she stamped her name in history as she became the eighth woman in collegiate history to break two minutes in the outdoor 800 meters. Running an insane, personal best time of 1:59.81, Chepngetich’s performances was one of the best in both NCAA and Clemson history.
Another Tiger that impressed in Lexington was junior Shantae Foreman as she now holds the collegiate lead this season in the women’s triple jump as she jumped 13.95m, to secure a new personal best and record the second best mark in school history.
On the men’s side, Ethan Cocco, who already held the school record in the javelin, improved the record as he threw a personal best of 71.64m to punch his ticket to nationals. The previous record, which was set by Cocco this season was 71.42m.
Tarees Rhoden ran a personal best time of 1:45.71 in the men’s 800 meters to improve the No. 2 all-time performance in the event for Clemson.
For the women’s 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams, both groups recorded their best times of the season as the 4×100 finished with a time of 43.48 and the 4×400 crossed the line at 3:29.46. Recording personal best time’s on the women’s side was Oneka Wilson and Ken’Naria Gadson as Wilson ran 12.79 in the 100 meter hurdles and Gadson recorded a 56.53 finish in the 400 meter hurdles.
Up next, the Tigers will prepare for the NCAA Outdoor Championships with events starting Wednesday, June 5 and wrapping up on Saturday, June 8. The Championships will take place in Eugene, Ore. at Hayward Field.
