Four Trojans Earn USTFCCCA West Region Honors

USC’s Jasmine Jones (Women’s Track Athlete), Quincy Watts (Men’s Head Coach), Joanna Hayes (Women’s Assistant Coach) and Jeff Petersmeyer (Men’s Assistant Coach) all were named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) West Region award-winners today (June 14).

Jones, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., won the NCAA 400m hurdles title and placed fourth in the 100m hurdles to lead USC to a 10th-place tie at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Championships.  Her winning 400m hurdles time of 53.15 shattered the championships’ record, set the USC school record and is the second-fastest time ever in the event by a college athlete.  Her time in the 100m hurdles final of 12.64 was also a personal best and bettered her fourth-place standing on USC’s all-time list. Earlier in the year, Jones won the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles titles at the Pac-12 Championships and was named the Pac-12 Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.

Watts, in his third season as Director of Track & Field and Cross Country for USC and 11th with the program, led the Trojan men to a third-place finish at the 2024 NCAA Track & Field Championships, the team’s highest finish since also placing third in 2003.  USC also placed second at the Pac-12 T&F Championships, with Johnnie Blockburger being named Pac-12 Men’s Track Athlete of the Year and Racquil Broderick named Men’s Freshman of the Year.  During the 2024 season, USC male athletes posted 13 school all-time top 10 times or marks.

Hayes, in her eighth year as an assistant coach with USC, guided Jasmine Jones to the NCAA 400m hurdles title and to a fourth-place finish in the 100m hurdles.  Jones ran a 53.15 time in the 400m hurdles, the second-fastest collegiate time ever to Olympian and world-record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone’s 52.75 set ins 2018 with Kentucky.  Jalaysiya Smith in the 100m hurdles joined Jones in earning first-team All-America honors and Rae-Anne Serville garnered second-team All-Amerca honors in the 400m hurdles.  USC’s hurdlers scored 16 of the Trojans’ 25 points at the 2024 NCAA Championships to help lead the team to a 10th-place tie.  Jones also was named Pac-12 Women’s Track Athlete of the Year as she won both the 100m and 400m hurdles titles.
