EUGENE, Ore. — Tennessee track & field freshman Ka’Myya Haywood continued her fantastic rookie campaign this week at the 2024 USATF U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, taking second in the women’s 800-meter final to earn a spot on Team USA for the upcoming World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.
 
The Jacksonville, Florida, native turned in a time of 2:04.59 in her national U20 championship debut, only 0.61 seconds off her personal best set in the final of the 2024 SEC Outdoor Championships. Her PB of 2:03.98 ranks No. 14 on the World U20 list this season.
 
Haywood was one of three Tennessee freshmen in action in Eugene this week, as high jumper Grant Campbell and hurdler Myla Greene each made their second consecutive appearances at the U20 national meet. Campbell took fourth after clearing 2.10 meters (6-10.75), while Greene won her 100-meter hurdles preliminary in 13.43 seconds before sustaining an injury in the final.
 
Four future Vols also saw action at the meet, highlighted by pole vault signee Paul Migas taking third with a clearance of 5.30 meters (17-4.5). His mark would have ranked sixth among NCAA Division I freshmen in 2024. The Illinois native will serve as the first alternate for the Team USA contingent at the World Athletics U20 Championships.
 
Distance signee Tula Fawbush saw action in the women’s U20 3,000-meter steeplechase, completing the race in a personal-best 10:38.33 to place fifth overall. The Buckner, Kentucky, product turned around the next day to earn a runner-up finish in the 2,000-meter steeplechase at the coinciding Nike Outdoor Nationals with a time of 6:48.41.
 
Incoming quarter-milers Rickey Williams III and Shamar Heard each lined up for the U20 400-meter championship and came away with a pair of top-10 finishes. Williams made the final and took eighth overall in 47.17 seconds, while Heard finished 10th in the prelims with a mark of 47.52.
 
Haywood will travel with Team USA to Lima, Peru, for the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships. The women’s 800-meter first round is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 12:05 p.m. ET.
