SEATTLE – Huskies past and present are converging on Hayward Field in Eugene for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, looking to keep the Olympic dream burning bright and earn a summer trip to Paris. The Trials begin Friday, Jun 21, and continue until Sunday, June 30, with a two-day break in the middle on June 25-26.
There are sixteen Huskies tuned up for action at these Trials, including ten members of the 2024 roster.
The ten Huskies who just wrapped up their collegiate season earlier this month and are now taking on America’s elite include Prestin Artis (long jump), Chandler Ault (javelin), Jonathan Birchman (400m hurdles), Chloe Foerster (1500m), Nathan Green (1500m), Luke Houser (1500m), Amanda Moll (pole vault), Hana Moll (pole vault), Evan Jenkins (10000m), and Joe Waskom (1500m).
Out of those ten, Artis, Foerster, Green, Amanda and Hana Moll, and Jenkins all have eligibility remaining, while Ault, Birchman, Houser, and Waskom just concluded their Husky careers.
Six UW alumni are in the fields, with five of those six having graduated just one year ago in 2023. Those five are Kayley DeLay (steeplechase), Cass Elliott (800m), Sam Ellis (800m and 1500m), Jacob Englar (pole vault) and Anna Gibson (1500m). The one and only alumni dating farther back than 2023 is Eleanor Fulton, a 2016 grad who has made the 1,500m field once again.
Making Team USA for Paris starts first and foremost with a top-three finish at the Trials, then either the Olympic Standard must be met or the athletes must be in the World Athletics rankings quota.
All the Huskies on the track will have three rounds to run if they reach the final, except for Jenkins in the 10k, which is a straight final on the first night of the meet. In the field, there is a qualifying round for every field event followed by a final on another date.
NBC and USA Networks will provide television coverage of the championships, with Peacock live streaming all the action.
