Bears’ Pole Vaulter Places 14th
EUGENE, Ore. — Tyler Burns of the California men’s track and field team came up just short at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials Friday night placing 15th in the first round of the pole vault.
Burns narrowly missed a spot in the final round with 13 athletes advancing at Hayward Field. After taking two attempts to achieve the first two heights, the 2023 Pac-12 bronze medalist cleared 5.60 (18-6.5) on his first try. He attempted his personal record of 5.65 (18-6.5) twice before skipping to 5.70 (18-8.25) for his final attempt, but did not clear the bar.
Trials continue tomorrow with Cal’s David Foster competing in the first round of the men’s 100 meters.
