Scotland’s Naomi Lang tops the podium in the women’s race at Snowdon

From Angela Mudge in Wales

Naomi Lang flew down the descent at Saturday’s Snowdon International to take her first international victory by almost tghree minutes from English rival, Eve Pannone.

In very wet and cool conditions , Scotland’s Naomi reached the summit in second place, some 55 seconds behind Italy’s Vivien Bonzi.

The GB and NI international then opened a massive gap on the descent to take the win, to follow on from Holly Page‘s victory for Scotland lint hes ame race last year.

The Italians finished thrid, fourth and fifth to take the women’s team event with Scotland landing third place.

Catriona MacDonald had a strong run to finish in eighth, with Jill Stephen in 12th and Ella Peters in 16th.

In the men’s race England’s Joe Steward led from the gun and was a clear winner.

Jacob Adkin reached the summit in third but lost a place on the descent to finish in fourth. Kieran Cooper had a fast descent to take sxith, with Ewan Brown in 10th and Robin Downie was 16th.

The men’s team equalled the women by finishing third behind Italy and England.

The team score is calculated by time and Italy narrowly beat England’s men by one second. It was great to see the Italians winning the team event having missed the podium in recent years.

Once again, the conditions on the hill were testing. The heavy rain turned the path into a stream making the descent trickier than usual.

Thanks to the marshals for enduring the wet conditions and the team are looking forward the 50th edition in 2025.
