Cockrell Earns Silver Medal & Jones Takes 4th In Women’s 400m Hurdles At Paris Olympics

Anna Cockrell placed second in the women’s 400m hurdles final to earn a silver medal and Jasmine Jones placed fourth in the event during the seventh day of track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at Stade de France in Paris, France today (Aug. 8). 

  • Anna Cockrell (USC, 2021) posted a personal-best time of 51.87 to run down silver-medalist favorite Femke Bol on the final stretch to earn the silver medal.  Bol (52.15) just held on for the bronze medal as a hard-charging Jasmine Jones (USC, 2024) ran a personal-best and school-record time of 52.29 to finish fourth.  Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400m hurdles title with a world-record time of 50.37.   Cockrell made it a third straight Olympics with a Trojan winning at least a silver medal in the event as Dalilah Muhammad (USC, 2012) won the silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.  A Trojan has earned a medal in the women’s 400m hurdles in four of the last five Olympics, as Natasha Danvers (USC, 2000) earned a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
  • TeeTee Terry (USC, 2021) ran the second leg for USA’s women’s 4x100m relay team which won its heat and had the fastest qualifying time for the final of 41.94.  Terry and her teammates Melissa Jefferson, Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson advance to the final tomorrow at 10:30 a.m.  Terry was credited with a 10.02 leg, the fastest second-leg among both heats.
  • With a first leg of Aaron Brown (USC, 2014) and an anchor leg of Andre De Grasse (USC, 2015), Canada took third in its men’s 4x100m relay heat with a time of 38.39 to automatically qualify for the final.  Brown and De Grasse and their teammates Jerome Blake and Brendon Rodney will race in the men’s 4x100m final tomorrow at 10:47 a.m.  Brown was credited with the fastest leadoff leg in his heat of 10.48. 
  • Incoming freshman Ashley Erasmus (USC, 2028) qualified for the women’s shot put, but did not compete today due to injury.
