Laura Muir came up with a stunning PB and new Scottish Record at Paris 2024 – as she finished fifth in her third Olympic final
The Stade de France was gripped by another ‘craxy’ 1600m showdown as records and PB fell.
Faith Kipyegon took her third successive Olympic title with an Olympic Reocrd 3:51.29 after Gudaf Tsegay had set a very hot pace which dragged the field to stunning times.
Australia’s Jessica Hull took the silver and Laura’s Team GB team-mate, Georgia Bell, took the bronze right on the line as she headed Ethiopian Diribe Welteji with a British Record (3:52.61).
Laura clocked 3:53.37 with a more even-paced run than many of her rivals and those tactics almost brought the ultimate dividend.
We had noted it was the Scot’s 24th major final in her career and her third in succession at the Olympics.
Laura was seventh in Rio, a silver medallist in Tokyo and fifth in Paris in a high class field – it is a series which reflects perfectly on her classy and consistent career.
