Gators Show Out, Leiseth Takes Fifth on Day 2 at World Athletics U20 Championships

LIMA, Peru – Day 2 of the World Athletics U20 Championships saw two Gators advance, one set multiple season bests, and a top-5 finish in the Discus Throw Final.

U.S. U20 Discus Throw Champion Gracelyn Leiseth finished fifth in the Women’s Discus Throw Final. Her throw of 52.87m was tops among the U.S. and North American competitors. She will look to secure another top-5 finish in these games, as she competes in the Shot put beginning on August 30.

The Men’s 400mH featured a dominant performance from incoming Gator freshman Vance Nilsson. His 51.98 second pace was first in his heat, the 11th best in the field, and landed him in the Semifinal. Abigail Elmore rounded out her Heptathlon performance with two season bests in the final two disciplines, posting her best marks of the year with a 5.46m leap in the Long Jump and a 35.19m mark in the Javelin. Her 2:29.72 time in the 800m was good for fourth in her heat, and rounded out her final Heptathlon score at 5052 points. Her total was good for 13th in the final standings.
