Pretre Takes Eighth In World U20 1500m Heat



Bears Will Have 1 More Representative Competing Thursday

LIMA, PERU – California track and field sophomore Justin Pretre competed in the qualifying round of the World U20 Athletics Championships Men’s 1500m on Wednesday at Estádio Nacional, earning an eighth-place finish in Heat 2.

Pretre, who won the Canadian U20 1500m title exactly two months ago, finished with a time of 3:46.66 – 1.54 seconds shy of a top-five time and a spot in Saturday’s 1500m Final.

The Golden Bears will once again be represented at the U20 World Championships on Thursday when freshman Valentina Savva competes in the hammer throw. Savva, the reigning U20 European Champion, has placed in the top five in each of the last two U20 World Championships.

The hammer qualification round is set to begin at 7:10 a.m. PT.
