PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to open their 2024 campaign with the Panther Opener, at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh. The Panthers will be competing in a tri-meet against nearby universities, Carnegie Mellon and Robert Morris.
The men’s 5K race will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m, with the women’s 5K to follow at 9:15 a.m. The start line for both races is at the Schenley Park Oval Sportsplex near the Schenley Park Tennis Courts. The meet is free and open to the public. Parking is available on Overlook Drive.
On the men’s side, the Panthers will be led by graduate student Sam Otis, and a quartet of seniors; Quintin Gatons, Peyton Geehrer, Luke Miller and Finn Walsh.
The women’s squad is led by graduate student, Sadie Carey-Tharp and senior, Winnie Incorvaia. Both Carey-Tharp and Incorvaia earned All-Region honors last year, with Carey-Tharp earning All-ACC honors as well. Mid-year transfer, Sydney Nowicki will look to make an immediate impact for the team. Additionally, sophomores Camy Kiser and Olivia Bufalini are returning after impressive first seasons with the Panthers.
New Panthers
The men’s squad welcomes four freshmen to the team; Cole Casadei, Nolan McGinn, Thomas McMahon and Nick Steinfeldt. The women have added five new members; freshmen Ella Cook, Gabby Keith, Sienna Miller, Sophie Mullins and junior Zoe Simpson.
Pitt will travel to Penn State for the Spiked Shoe Invitational on Friday, September 13th.
