U20 European Champion Throws 2nd-Best In Field
LIMA, Peru – California track and field freshman Valentina Savva had a fantastic showing in the qualifying round of the World U20 Athletics Championships on Thursday morning, clinching a spot in the hammer throw final with a group-best 65.61m (215-3) on her second attempt.
Savva’s throw ranked second overall in the field, being slightly edged out by China’s Jiale Zhang’s second throw of 65.73m (215-7).
Savva, the reigning European U20 champion, moves on to the World U20 hammer throw final for the third time in her career. The final will take place on Saturday at 3:40 p.m. PT at Estádio Nacional.
