USC Cross Country Opens Season At Waves Invitational Friday

Women’s Cross Country | August 29, 2024

The USC women’s cross country team under the direction of its new coach Milton Mallard will open up the 2024 season at the Waves Invitational (4K) at Alumni Park in Malibu, Calif. at 5:15 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 30).

The revamped Trojan roster features a blend of returning runners and transfers who will don the Cardinal & Gold for the first time this season on Friday.  It will be a quick turnaround for the associate head coach of cross country Mallard, who was officially hired this week.

“I’m really excited about being here,” said Mallard.  “I’m looking forward to seeing how the team competes at this first meet and seeing where it goes.  Hopefully we can continue to get better and better each week.”

The returning Trojans on the team are graduate student Alyssa Blockburger, redshirt junior Jacqueline Duarte, senior Gigi Maccagnini, senior Giovanna Pisano, junior Lucia Rabolli, sophomore Haley Spoden and sophomore Angelina Vasquez.  New to the squad will be sophomore transfer Isabella Duarte and graduate transfers Sierra Ransweiler, Olivia Schmitt and Helena Teixeira-Dasilva.  All of the runners except for Ransweiler are expected to compete at the Waves Invitational.

The Waves Invitational is the first of three regular season meets for the Trojans as they will also compete at the Dave Murray Invitational (6K) in Tucson, Ariz. on Sept. 28 and at the Highlander Invitational (6K) in Riverside on Oc. 19.  USC will then compete in its first Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Savoy, Ill. on Nov. 1, followed by the NCAA West Regional in Colfax, Wash. on Nov. 15 and the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23 in Madison, Wisc.
