KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee cross country kicked off the 2024 season in style as the 10th-ranked Lady Vols and Vols raced to victory at the Tennessee Cross Country Invitational at Cherokee Farm.

Graduate Msgana Araya led the women to victory in the 3-mile race at 18:01.9. It is the first home-meet win for the Brentwood, Tennessee, native.

Araya was chased to the finish line by a host of Lady Vols. Jaylee Wingate (18:02.2), Summer Schuster (18:02.3), Teegan Anderson (18:02.3) and Ella Johnson (18:02.5) rounded out Tennessee’s top five.

The women dominated the race, scoring 15 points. University of the Cumberlands finished second with 55 points, while Chattanooga was third at 76 points.

In the men’s 4-mile, Canaan Anderson took home the win as he crossed the line in his final home race on the grass in 20:59.77. Like Araya, it is the first home-meet victory for the Murfreesboro native.
