Judy, Evaline Chepkoech Shine in Debut, Pacing Sun Devil Cross Country in Season Opening George Kyte Classic

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – If first impressions are everything, then Judy Chepkoech and Evaline Chepkoech did just that in their Sun Devil debuts on Saturday afternoon in Flagstaff.

Both newcomers to the Cross Country program this season from Kenya, Judy Chepkoech paced the field at the season-opening George Kyte Classic at Buffalo Park, winning the Women’s 2.5 mile run at an incredible 14:09.51 clip. Evaline Chepkoech wasn’t far behind, finishing at 15:11.5 to place 13th overall in the Division I race.

The duo helped the Sun Devil Women place third (points), trailing host Northern Arizona and Nevada. Judy Chepkoech’s title is the first individual victory for the Sun Devil Women at the George Kyte Classic since Chelsea Trotten (15:05.4) in 2015.

The Sun Devil Men placed fourth, led by Kristian Kimberlin’s 23:43.2 effort in the 4.5 mile race to place 17th overall.
