Nonah Waldron placed fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles to highlight the Trojans’ efforts during the five days of the World Athletics U20 Championships held in Lima, Peru from Aug. 27-31.
The USC sophomore Waldron had a time of 13.30 (-0.3) to place fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles final on Aug. 30. Waldron, who was representing USA, ran 13:55 (-0.6) in the preliminary round and 13.35 (+0.1) in the semifinals on Aug. 29 to advance.
Incoming freshman Shaiquan Dunn competing for Jamaica placed seventh in the men’s discus throw final (1.75 kg) with a best mark of 196-2 (59.79m) in the final on Aug. 31. Dunn had a top throw of 189-8 (57.82m) to advance out of the qualifying round on Aug. 30.
Dunn also placed ninth in the men’s shot put final on Aug. 27 with a best mark of 62-1 (18.92m). He advanced to the final earlier in the day with a throw of 64-1 (19.53m).
Incoming freshman and 2024 Olympian Tiana Eyakpobeyan placed seventh in the women’s 100m final with a time of 11.63 (+0.0) on Aug. 28. Eyakpobeyan, competing for Nigeria, had a time of 11.61 (+0.2) in the preliminary rounds and 11.56 (-0.3) in the semifinal on Aug. 27. Fellow freshman Avery Lewis, competing for USA, had a time of 11.85 (-0.6) to advance out of the prelims and a time of 11.77 (-0.3) in the semifinal, but did not advance to the final.
Sophomore Reese Garland placed ninth in the women’s discus throw final on Aug. 28 with a mark of 165-10 (50.56m). Garland, representing USA, advanced to the final with a best throw of 165-0 (50.31m) in the qualifying round on Aug. 27.
Sophomore Jenna Gallaway, competing for USA, placed 21st in the women’s hammer throw on Aug. 29 with a best mark of 167-2 (50.97m).
