CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Fighting Illini men’s and women’s cross country teams return to the Orange and Blue Golf Course in Savoy, Ill. for the Fighting Illini Big Ten Preview race on Friday (Sept. 13). The women’s 6k will begin at 5:00 p.m. and the men’s 8k will follow at 5:45 p.m. CT.
Illinois will be joined by eight other teams, including Butler, Cincinnati, Indiana, Iowa, Northwestern, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin. This will be a preview of the 2024 Big Ten Championships that will be held later this season at the Orange and Blue Golf Course on Friday (Nov. 1). The last time Illinois hosted the Big Ten Championships at this site was 23 years ago in 2001.
The Orange and Blue cross country teams opened up the season last Friday (Sept. 7) with the Badger Classic in Madison, Wis. Senior Daniella Hubble was the Illini women’s top finisher, she placed third overall in the 6k with a time of 21:13.6 and senior Tyler Cushing led the Illini men with a fifth-place finish (18:18.3). Six other Illini recorded personal-bests 6k’s: juniors Alex Partlow (18:18.5) and Shawn Juliette (19:03.6), sophomore Avril Andre (21:13.7), senior Amalia Malecek (21:50.7) and sophomores Mabry Bruhn (22:13.6) and Isabella Daley (22:40.3).
