Pitt Travels to Penn State for First Away Meet of Season


PITTSBURGH – Pitt Cross Country travels to University Park, Pa. for the first away meet of the 2024 season, the Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Penn State at the Blue & White Golf Courses. The women’s 6K race begins at 10 a.m. and the men’s 5.2-mile race is scheduled to start at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, September 13th.

The women’s team will be competing against 19 other teams, highlighted by Mid-Atlantic Regional rivals Penn, Penn State, Virginia and Princeton. The men’s team features 18 other teams, including in-region Georgetown, Navy, Penn State and Penn.

At the same meet last year, the men’s team finished second and the women’s team placed third. Of the returners, Peyton Geehrer led the way for Pitt, finishing in 15th place. Quintin Gatons, Luke Miller and Finn Walsh closed in behind Geehrer in 17th, 18th and 20th places, respectively. Winnie Incorvaia was the top finisher for the women, placing 7th in the 6K race. Sadie Carey-Tharp and Camy Kiser finished in the top 20 as well.

The course is free and open to the public. Spectator parking will be available in the West Deck for $1.00 per hour.
