1. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: As is the case every year, the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational houses some of the top teams in the nation—welcoming 15 ranked opponents on the women’s side. Oregon and Washington, two new members of the revised 18-team Big Ten, highlight the top programs making their way to Wisconsin, ranked fourth and fifth respectively.

NUTTYCOMBE HISTORY: Shea Ruhly and Leané Willemse have been the top finishers for Wisconsin women’s team in the last two Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitationals, serving as a precursor to strong performances in the future. In 2022, Ruhly went on to enjoy an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships after emerging as the first Badger to cross the line. Willemse followed in her footsteps in 2023, finishing as the runner-up at the 2023 Big Ten Championships after leading the Badgers at Nuttycombe.

3. AWARD SEASON: Over the past couple of weeks, the Badgers have reigned in multiple weekly awards, each of which coming from newcomers. Nora Gremban kicked off the season with a runner-up finish at the Badger Classic—garnering the first-ever Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week award. A week later, Lindsay Cunningham was named the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after emerging as the individual champion at the Big Ten Preview in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., carrying her momentum after a successful tenure at Winona State.
