Duke Finishes Runner-Up in Men’s 8K Open at Lakefront Invitational


DURHAM, N.C. – Duke cross country competed at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday afternoon, with the men’s squad headlining the day’s performances with a runner-up finish in the 8K Open race.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Blue Devils capped the day with a strong performance in the men’s 8K Open race, totaling 43 points en route to locking down the second-place finish. Graduate student Jack Kovach led the charge for Duke with a ninth-place finish of 24:59.20.
  • Sophomores Riley Newport and Rendon Kuykendall and senior Conor Bohrer were next to cross the finish line – all three finishing inside the top 20.
  • Newport’s time of 25:10.44 was good for 12th place while Bohrer (16th) and Kuykendall (20th) clocked 25:27.24 and 25:38.22, respectively.
  • Junior William Skelly rounded out the quintet of Duke runners, in 26th, courtesy of a 26:12.82 time.
  • Duke also took part in the men’s 8K Championship and women’s 6K Championship races, with both teams finishing 14th in the team standings with 355 and 346 points, respectively.
  • For the men, it was junior Nick Falk (63rd) who paced the efforts in the event via a run of 24:17.21. Sophomore Thais Rolly led the way for the Blue Devil women, placing 38th after running 20:35.78.
