MADISON, Wis. – Bob Liking was named the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week after leading Wisconsin to a team championship at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4.
Liking has now been awarded the honor for a fourth time in his career, last earning after finishing as the individual champion of the 2023 Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
This year, Liking placed seventh overall and first among all of the Big Ten competitors—covering the 8K course in 22 minutes, 59.02 seconds. The men’s team walked away with 69 points and a first-place finish, winning the event by four spots ahead of No. 12 Alabama.
The race marked a personal best for the St. Charles, Ill. native, shattering his time by about 15 seconds.
The graduate student is a three-time Big Ten Champion in cross country—making some noise in his first race of the season to kick off his 2024 campaign.
Liking and the Badgers are back on the course in just over a week to host the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday, Oct. 19. The men’s team will enter the event ranked at No. 10 by the USTFCCCA, rising eight spots after last week’s race in Chicago.
