SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 19, 2024) – South Carolina Cross Country concluded the regular season on Saturday morning in Spartanburg, S.C. with a fifth-place finish in the Upstate Invite.
Carolina sent six student-athletes for one final tune-up before the SEC Championship in November. Ella Zeigler made her season debut and led the way for the Garnet & Black, turning in a 12th-place finish with a time of 18:12.3. Elle Mehltretter competed in her first collegiate 5K event and ran 18:28.8 to finish 21st overall. Maddie White was the third fastest Gamecock and finished 23rd, running 18:31.2 for a new personal best in the 5K, knocking off a full two minutes off her previous personal best.
Hayden Withers made her season debut and finished 31st for Carolina, clocking 18:43.1. The final scoring time for the Gamecocks came from Maddie Smith who ran a personal best time of 19:08.0 to finish 44th overall.
Emory won the team title with 34 points, followed by Jacksonville State in second with 86 points and UNC Asheville rounding out the top three with 103 points.
The Gamecocks will turn their attention to the upcoming 2024 SEC Cross Country Championship held on Friday, Nov. 1 at 10:15 a.m. in College Station, Texas.
