Cross Country Will Be First Cal Team To Participate In An ACC Championship
BERKELEY – California’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will start their postseason run with their first ever ACC Championships in program history. The race will take place Friday in Cary, North Carolina at the Wakemed Soccer Park. The men’s 8k race will start at 6:30 a.m. PT followed by the women’s 6k at 7:30 a.m. PT. Both races will be broadcasted on ACCN also available on ESPN+. Graduate student Carrick Denker has been Cal’s top finisher on the men’s side in his last three races, including winning the title at the USF Invitational. He has also earned top-20 finishes in each event he has competed in this season. Garrett MacQuiddy has cemented top-35 finishes in each of his last three competitions, including a second-place finish at the USF Invitational.
On the women’s side, Addie Johnson was Cal’s top finisher at the USF Invitational and Bill Dellinger Invitational, earning top-20 finishes in both races. She broke her personal best at the Dellinger Invitational with a time of 20:38.4 in the 6,000-meter race.
The Golden Bears will face tough conference competitors at the ACC Championships, including 13 nationally ranked teams. The men will face No. 2 Stanford, No.7 Wake Forest, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 12 Syracuse, No.13 North Carolina, and No. 16 Virginia. The women will clash against No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 10 North Carolina State, No.15 Stanford, No. 19 North Carolina, No. 21 Virginia, and No. 23 Syracuse, according to the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll. North Carolina is looking to defend the men’s title and North Carolina State is looking to repeat as the women’s winner.
