MADISON, Wis. – Illinois senior cross country runner Halle Hill completed the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Nov. 23) from the Thomas Zimmer Championships Course. Hill placed 197th overall on a time of 21:09.6.
“Overall I’m proud of Halle’s season and the improvements she made this year, especially at the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Midwest Regionals,” said head cross country coach Eric Johannigmeier. “To qualify for the NCAA Championships is a great accomplishment and I know the experience she got this cross season will set her up well for this track season!”
This concludes a notable season for the Fishers, Ind. native that was highlighted by earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors at the Big Ten Championships with her 16th-place finish on Nov. 1 in Savoy, Ill. Her 6k time that day of 19:43.7 shattered Angela Bizzarri’s 19:46.0 school record she ran en route to a national title in 2009, Illinois’ lone women’s national champion.
Hill was the Illini women’s top finisher in five out of six races this season, finishing inside the top 6 in four of those. Her highest finish of the season was a silver medal at the Fighting Illini Big Ten preview on Sept. 13 (20:11.5).
