Academic Services November Student-Athletes of the Month

PULLMAN, Wash. (December 1, 2024) – Washington State cross country’s Leif Swanson and swimming’s Samantha Krew were each named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2024.

Swanson is senior majoring in kinesiology who owns a 3.73 GPA, earned All-West Coast Conference All-Academic First Team and also serves as a peer academic counselor, mentoring new student-athletes during the past two years. Swanson also attended the WSU service trip to Costa Rica last summer, attended the Leadership Academy in 2022 and is scheduled to graduate this spring. On the course, Swanson qualified for the 2024 NCAA West Regional and was named to the All-WCC First Team after placing tenth at the WCC Championships.

Krew is a senior with a 3.87 GPA while majoring in neuroscience and minoring in biology. Krew, a 2024 CSC Academic All-District selection, is scheduled to graduate this spring, aspires to attend medical school and is preparing to take the MCAT exam in May. Krew is the SAAC President, help found the ASTEM Club, contributed on the WSU Athletic Council, has volunteered at the Special Olympics and was of the Costa Rica service trip. In the pool last season, Krew was part of three relay wins including the 400 free relay over No. 23 UCLA and later posted the ninth-fastest 200 fly in WSU history. This past fall, Krew has helped the Cougars to a 5-0 start to the season, their best start since 2010-11, and claimed an individual win in the 100 free against Seattle U.

Each month Washington State Academic Services honors two student-athletes who demonstrate commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
