There is a special relationship when a father coaches his son. It becomes even more meaningful when the athlete finds success in the same event the parent has been passionate about his entire life. Rob Frangione graduated from Stamford High in 1992 where he was an FCIAC scorer in the pole vault and competed for Michigan in college. He continued competing as a masters athlete and has been coaching at New Canaan HS for many years. His son, Rob III began training for the pole vault when he was 11-years old under his father’s tutelage. Earlier this season he tied the New Canaan school record at 12-6. On Saturday, in the same facility his father competed in, Rob Frangione III broke the 5-year old school record by an inch at 12-7 to win the FCIAC Developmental meet.

“Having my father coach me is the greatest honor you can imagine,” Frangione expressed soon after his clearance. “Knowing you have that bond with someone you have known your entire life, it’s incredible and I’m so grateful to have him as my coach.”

With six weeks until the Class meet, the boys school record is sure to improve. But the next challenge for father/coach is to put his sophomore daughters, Julie and Kate’s name on the record board as well to make it a Frangione family sweep.

If it is indoor track, Windsor boys are putting up big performances in the 4x200m relay. Their foursome broke 1:31 to make the finals and took 3rd in a CT leading time of 1:30.42.

After competing in the Foot Locker Cross Country Nationals three weeks ago, Tess and Liv Sherry of Conard opened up their indoor campaign by entering the 3000m Invitational on…
