LUBBOCK, TEXAS (Jan. 16, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field is off to Lubbock, Texas for the first of two consecutive meets in the Lone Star State. The Gamecocks will compete in the 2025 Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech, and will begin the two-day meet tomorrow at 5 p.m. (EST).

Meet Information
The Corky Classic features a field loaded with teams, including 10 teams from the Power 4 level. The Gamecocks will square off against a trio of SEC foes: Florida, Kentucky and Texas A&M. In addition to league competition, South Carolina will also compete against SMU, New Mexico, Arizona State, Arizona, Miami (Fla.), TCU, Baylor and the host and 2024 NCAA Men’s Indoor National Champions, Texas Tech.
The two-day meet will begin tomorrow at 5 p.m. (EST) with the women’s 60 meter hurdles preliminary round. The final event for the Gamecocks on Friday’s opening day will be the men’s 60 meter finals at 9:35 p.m. (EST). Saturday will open with Section B of the women’s 200 meter at noon (EST) and conclude with the men’s 4×400 meter relay at 4:45 p.m. (EST).

South Carolina opened the 2025 calendar year with a strong showing in the Gamecock Opener, winning 12 combined events with eight NCAA Top 25 marks and a combined 20 new personal bests. Cheyla Scott stole the show in the field events in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.86m (6-1.25) for a new personal best and the third best high jump in program history. In addition, Scott’s mark puts her second in the NCAA on the young season. The women’s 4×400 meter relay also clocked an impressive time of 3:35.58 as Zaya Akins, Jayla Jamison, Cynteria James and JaMeesia Ford currently rank fourth in the NCAA.
Dylan Targgart threw 19.37m (63-6.75) in the men’s shot put for the win, holding on to the second best throw in the NCAA this season. Much like the women, the men’s 4x400m squad of Josiah Wrice, Devan Crumpton, Bryson Miller and Jasauna Dennis also rank fourth in the NCAA after winning the Gamecock Opener with a time of 3:07.66.

JaMeesia Ford earned her first SEC weekly honor on Tuesday as she was named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week….
