Terps Win Four Events, Coleman Sets 60 Meters School Record At Nittany Lion Challenge

STATE COLLEGE, PA – Armanie Coleman added to her school record collection claiming the 60 meter title and the Terps won four events overall as Maryland returned to action on Saturday at the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge.
 
Coleman accounted for a pair of wins on the day taking the 60 meters and the 200 meters. She started the day by setting the program record in the 60 meters with a new personal-best time of 7.43 seconds. She added a win in the 200 meters (24.49 seconds) – an event where she set the school record in the opening meet of the year at Navy back in December.
 
Kami Joi Hickson won the 600 meters with a personal-best time (1:32.37) and the third-fastest mark in program history. She was followed by Emma Pegg who finished second with the fourth-fastest time (1:32.54) in program history and a personal-best mark as well.
 
In her first meet for the Terps, Maya Valmon placed fourth in the 300 meters (38.86 seconds) followed by Samantha Payne who was sixth (39.09 seconds). Those times were the fifth and sixth fastest times in program history, respectively.
 
Maryland went 1-2-3 in the 800 meters led by Katerina Talanova who set a new personal-best time by over five seconds. She clocked a time of 2-minutes, 14.21 seconds for the win. She was followed by Lucy Scothern (2:15.40) whose time was also a PR by four seconds. Reese Delp closed out the trifecta by hitting a PR as well in 2 minutes, 15.79 seconds.
 
In the mile, Katie Turk placed third with a personal-best of 4-minutes, 54.03 seconds.
 
Chioma Njoku closed out the top performers for Maryland with a second-place finish in the weight throw. She was narrowly edged out by Pittsburgh’s Norrah Lemongo who tossed 67-feet on her final attempt with Njoku going 66-feet, 5.00 inches.
 
Maryland will return to action on Friday and Saturday, January 24-25, at the Columbia Challenge at The Armory in New York.
