MySportsResults Admin – News – CT Athletes Chase Winter Blues with More Top Performances in 3rd Week of 2025

As Mother Nature sets to shake the skies this week with snow, state athletes chased away the winter blues with some top performances in preparation for the championship part of the season just a few weeks down the road. Check out some of the more notable performances in our first of two recaps from the past weekend.

8th James Barber Invitational

@ Moore Fieldhouse, Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven, CT

RESULTS

Last Wednesday night, senior Zachary McKirryher of Seymour took over the state lead in the pole vault as he cleared 14-3 on his first attempt to set a PR by seven inches. His victory also gave him the meet record that was set in 2023 by Lyman Hall’s Chance DeCrescenzo at 13-0.

More meet records came from Yendri Ruiz of New Britain in the 300m (36.93), the Hurricane’s girls 4×200 team won in their meet record of 1:52.89 and Guilford Kaylin Diglio cleared 10-6 to set another meet best mark.

The VA Showcase 

@ Virginia Beach Sports Center, Virginia Beach, VA

RESULTS

Owen Martin made the trip down to Virginia and it certainly paid off for the Xavier senior on Friday. He finished 5th in the mile running 4:15.00. His time is #15 in CT History and JT Burke’s 36-year old school record of 4:11.80 could be within reach this season. 

Steve Borbet Invitational

@ Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory, NY

RESULTS

People sometimes joke that western Connecticut isn’t really part of New England because it has such a strong pull from New York. Well the Greenwich track team has accepted that pull and their varsity athletes have only competed in New York City at either The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory or Ocean Breeze on Staten Island. And who can blame them since the Armory is only 40-minutes away and Staten Island is the same distance as travelling to New Haven. The Cardinals have gone under the radar but they just might surprise some people in the postseason, especially in the relays. On Friday night Cameron Williams, Jack Hannafin, William Tulloch and Ryan Newcomb running a 3:36.61, a CT #2, in the 1600m sprint medley relay with Newcomb splitting 1:58.27 for the 800m.

In the open 800m on Friday, Dylan Jelliffe (2:02.21 ), Benjamin Hayes (2:02.52), Chase Nizielski (2:04.39) and Benjamin Webster (2:05.84) all ran well which gives…
